AMMAN —
Yousef Shawarbeh, the mayor of Amman, stated on
Sunday that the municipality is welcoming both
Jordanian and foreign investors
to invest in numerous projects aimed at boosting its revenue, contributing to
the
economic system, and meeting civil needs. These projects are aligned with
its
strategic plan for the years 2022-2026, launched under royal auspices.

During his participation in the second day of the 8th
Conference for
Jordanian Businessmen and Investors, Shawarbeh explained that
the municipality's assets amount to JD2.2 billion, of which JD1 billion are
available for investment. He affirmed that the municipality has a clear vision
of projects needed by the city, including a conference center, an
amusement park, and an abattoir.
He noted that the
municipality's strategic plan encompasses
four pillars: quality of life, infrastructure, investment, and legislation,
including 212 projects to achieve 30 strategic goals and 15 objectives at a
cost of 1 billion dinars.
Developing investment environment
Shawarbeh said that the municipality contributes to
developing the investment environment in the capital by simplifying and
facilitating procedures for investors. The municipality also provides services
electronically and established the "
Vision Amman" company for
investment and development as an investment and development arm.
He said that any investor can communicate directly with
“
Vision Amman” and negotiate investment projects, bypassing bureaucratic
procedures with needed transparency. He highlighted that the projects range
from small to medium to large, with values ranging from JD1 million to JD400
million.
Emphasizing that the municipality strives to play a genuine
role in driving the national economy, creating
job opportunities, and
fulfilling royal directives and national objectives.
Current and prospective projects
He said that the municipality is currently fulfilling
various agreements including leasing land for the anticipated JD280 million
healthcare project, and memoranda of understanding with investors to prepare
necessary studies for a JD70 million investment project for a car city on a
900,000 square meter land in the Madoonah area.
He said that they are currently focusing on the waste
management project due to its importance. Technical and financial studies for
this project are expected to conclude by the end of the current year for
investment purposes, aiming to convert waste into energy.
Additionally, the municipality aims to
transform Amman into a smart city, implement a smart traffic management project, and establish a
national-level command and control center.
