AMMAN —On Saturday, the Minister of Public Works and Housing
Ahmad Maher Abul Samen, along with Amman Mayor Yousef Al-Shawarbeh, inspected
the routes and passenger stations for the upcoming Amman-Zarqa Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project.
During their site visit, Samen and Shawarbeh focused on the
operational details at the Tabarbour passenger station, a crucial hub for the
BRT project. Joining them were Secretary-General of the Ministry of Public
Works, Jamal Qutaishat, and Deputy Mayor of Amman, Mohammed Al Qaisi,
Al-Mamlaka TV reported.
The inspection also included an overview of the progress made on
the Al-Maslakh Intersection project, undertaken by the Ministry of Public Works
at a cost of JD12 million. This project incorporates dedicated lanes for the
rapid frequency buses, further enhancing the infrastructure for efficient
public transportation.
Samen emphasized that while the Amman-Zarqa BRT project is
distinct from the Amman BRT, it complements it by forming an integrated system
to bolster transportation networks in both Amman and Zarqa.
The project spans 20km, linking the station complex in Amman to
the new complex in Zarqa. It traverses significant intersections such as the
Al-Maslakh Intersection, Ayn Ghazal Intersection, Marka Intersection, and
Al-Hezam Intersection before heading to Zarqa via the Al-Zaytoonah road tunnel.
The route features underground and elevated intersections, with five passenger
stations designed to accommodate all population segments, including seniors and
people with disabilities.
The Amman-Zarqa Rapid Frequency Buses project, divided into four
phases, spans a total of 20km and is funded by the Social Security Investment Fund (SSIF). The project involves:
- Widening
and reconstructing roads.
- Constructing
new bridges and tunnels.
- Enhancing
intersections.
- Installing
pedestrian bridges, among other improvements.

The project signifies a flexible and efficient public
transportation system offering fast and secure services to residents and
commuters alike. Large-capacity buses operating in dedicated lanes will provide
high-quality services, running at frequencies of just a few minutes and
reaching speeds of up to 80km/h.
