The ministry said that the completed work includes
the establishment of three lanes from Zarqa to Amman, as well as rainwater
drains, service lines, public safety and lighting infrastructure, and other
necessary work in line with the highest global engineering standards.
The ministry, in
cooperation with the
Public Security Directorate (PSD), announced traffic
detours along the Amman-Zarqa highway as part of the third stage of the
project, effective as of 10am on Tuesday.
The detours will be equipped with traffic safety
infrastructure, the ministry said, calling on citizens to abide by the signs
posted and the signals and instructions of PSD and ministry cadres working
along the road.
Last August, the Director of Public Transport and
Infrastructure Projects in the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) Riyad
Al-Kharabsheh said BRT’s goal is to cover all areas in the capital city.
Kharabsheh said that BRT’s use increased
significantly, noting that the service is overcrowded during the peak hours. He
noted that the speed of the service and the comfort of the stations are
attracting more people to use BRT.
During peak hours, buses move every two minutes to
serve citizens, he said.
Kharabsheh said that GAM seeks to extend the bus
route inside the capital city Amman to 100km, noting that 30km is already in
service, while another 50km is part of the second phase to be implemented soon.
He said by having BRT serve
all regions in the capital, the municipality hopes to make the service the most
popular mean of transportation for all Jordanians. AMMAN (JNews) — The Ministry of Public Works and Housing completed part of the Amman-Zarqa
