Amman joins Milan pact: Commitment to sustainable food systems

AMMAN — As part of its commitment to increase food security and sustainable development, Amman has officially joined the Milan Urban Food Policy Pact (MUFPP). Mayor of Amman Yousef Shawarbeh stated that joining the pact represents a significant step, and aims to establish an integrated food security system by stimulating the sustainable agriculture sector and food production. اضافة اعلان

The municipality will implement several initiatives and programs to promote sustainable urban food systems in Amman, Shawarbeh explained. This includes investing in urban agriculture, such as community gardens and plant nurseries, to increase local food production. Additionally, supporting sustainable food industries, such as organic food industries, to enhance the efficient use of natural resources, and raising public awareness about the importance of sustainable urban food systems, Al-Mamlaka TV reported.

Furthermore, Shawarbeh emphasized that the municipality is committed to achieving the goals of the Milan Pact and is working on developing a specific action plan to accomplish these objectives.

MUFFP is one of the most important global initiatives, including over 250 cities, representing a total population of 450 million. It provides a comprehensive framework focusing on the global food system and offers recommendations and measures related to supporting proper planning of systems and laws, governance, sustainable food systems, supply and distribution networks, and social, economic, and food justice.
