The municipality will implement several initiatives and
programs to promote sustainable
urban food systems in Amman, Shawarbeh
explained. This includes investing in urban agriculture, such as community
gardens and plant nurseries, to increase local food production. Additionally,
supporting sustainable food industries, such as organic food industries, to
enhance the efficient use of natural resources, and raising public awareness
about the importance of sustainable urban food systems, Al-Mamlaka TV reported.
Furthermore, Shawarbeh emphasized that the municipality is
committed to achieving the goals of the Milan Pact and is working on developing
a specific action plan to accomplish these objectives.
MUFFP is one of the most important global initiatives,
including over 250 cities, representing a total population of 450 million. It
provides a comprehensive framework focusing on the global food system and
offers recommendations and measures related to supporting proper planning of
systems and laws, governance, sustainable food systems, supply and distribution
networks, and social, economic, and food justice.
