AMMAN — The
Anti-Narcotics Department (AND), in
collaboration with the Mass Media and Community Police Directorate, has
initiated an awareness campaign targeting crystal meth, with the goal of
enhancing public understanding of its dangers and promoting the reporting of
associated activities, Al-Ghad reported.

This campaign came in response to the
substance’s increased usage and spread among youth, often without their
awareness of its lethal and life-threatening effects.
According to AND, crystal meth is highly toxic
and dangerous, typically appearing as powder or crystalline granules. The
department noted that addiction can occur from the first dose, leading
individuals to escalate consumption to satisfy cravings, thus accelerating the
onset of dangerous symptoms that may result in death or self-harm.
The substance inflicts severe health damage on
users, including neurological damage, mental disturbances, hallucinations,
severe insomnia, elevated body temperature, high blood pressure, rapid heart
rate, emaciation, depression, tooth decay, lung infections, and aggressive
behavior. Additionally, AND emphasized that these factors make
crystal meth a
threat not only to users but also to those around them, driving them to
self-harm, harm others, or engage in criminal activities unknowingly.
AND urged all members of society, along with
national media outlets, to contribute to spreading awareness about this
substance and to report any information regarding its trafficking and
distribution, considering the inherent dangers it poses to society and
individuals.
