During a guided tour of the port for member of the
press, President Abdulmajeed Al-Qaraleh said ships loaded with “dangerous
materials” will no longer be received at the port.
Thirteen people died and hundreds were injured on June
27 when a tank of liquefied chlorine ruptured at the port. Following the
incident, the director-general of the company, alongside several other company
officials, were dismissed.
Qaraleh stressed that the company had not lost
shipping line deals as a result of the incident.
The Aqaba New Port handled a total of 2.922 million
tonnes in the first half of the year, an increase of 570,000 compared to the
same period last year.
