AMMAN — Two hundred businesspeople
from Saudi Arabia are expected to arrive in Aqaba via cruise ship in July to
look into investment opportunities, according to an official source at the Aqaba
Special Economic Zone Authority, who spoke to
Jordan News over
the phone.

Economists told
Jordan
News that they have high hopes for the visit, adding that there has been breakthroughs
and growth between the economic sectors of Jordan and Saudi Arabia.
Zaid Abdallah, a
Jordanian economist, told
Jordan News that "I expect that
this visit will have a great impact on all sectors, not only in Aqaba, but across
the Kingdom."
"We suffer from a lack
of financial resources and unemployment because of the pandemic and we need new
projects, particularly since the Saudis are professional businessmen and they
have good relations with Jordanians," Abdullah said.
Abdullah attributed
Jordan’s “good relations with neighboring countries to the wisdom of Jordanian
leadership.”
Ahmad Takrouri, another
Jordanian business owner, told
Jordan News that "I have
worked with Saudis, they are professional, reliable, and honest, we must have
good projects with them this will have a great impact and I can say this is a
promising visit."
"Visits like these
will give us a chance to combat the increasing levels of unemployment,” he said.
A source from the Saudi
Embassy in Amman told
Jordan News over the phone that "A seminar
will be held on Sunday at Aqaba University for Technology in the presence of
the ambassador, Naif bin Bandar Al-Sudairi, to discuss the upcoming visit and
future plans and projects and means to bolster the relations between the
brotherly countries."
The seminar is titled:
“Aqaba and its role in bolstering Saudi-Jordanian relations both on economic
and investment fronts.”
The seminar is set to outline the means for further
cooperation and how to best leverage the upcoming visit.
The Saudi ambassador
shared pictures on his twitter on Saturday during his visit to Aqaba.
He tweeted, “Today, In
Tala Bay Aqaba, Jordan’s future which is being built by the hands of its
dedicated and productive youth.”
Head of the
Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, Nayef Al-Bakhit told local media that the same
cruise ship that will be carrying the Saudis will make another trip in August
with 2,500 Saudi tourists on board.
Bakhit added that
low-cost airlines will also begin operating flights to Aqaba again at the
beginning of October.
