AMMAN – On
Thursday, the head of the
Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA), Nayef
Al-Fayez, announced that the budget for 88 projects on Aqaba Governorate's 2023
agenda reached around JD8.5 million, targeting 23 sectors. Of these, 65
projects have been completed, with 23 projects facing delays, achieving an
overall project completion rate of 75 percent.

During a meeting discussing Aqaba projects,
Al-Fayez emphasized the collaborative relationship between the authority and
the governorate council for developing and enhancing services in the city,
Petra reported.
He stressed the importance of joint
collaboration in prioritizing council-executed projects and achieving
developmental projects that serve the interests of Aqaba's citizens.
Governor Khaled Al-Hajaj praised the
cooperation between the two councils, affirming the need to empower the
entrepreneurship sector, specifically Aqaba as to enhance its global standing
in tourism, commerce and logistics.
Hajaj highlighted the readiness of the
executive council to support the Aqaba’s governorate council. He noted the
developmental progress and projects align with His Majesty’s vision to make
Aqaba an economic and investment hub and achieving sustainable development.
Council President, Imad Amro, stated that
approving the 2023 budget facilitated the prompt implementation of these
projects, positively impacting services and development in the governorate.
Amro mentioned that the council took
sufficient time to study, analyze, and select projects, consulting relevant
authorities to ensure positive impact on citizens. The budget covered more than
23 sectors, focusing on construction, tourism,
health, education, water, youth,
religious affairs, agriculture and social development.
Amro presented key projects
in the upcoming budget, including delivering the comprehensive Aqaba Health
Center in the Fifth District, supporting the field hospital, completing the
Wadi Rum Stadium, supporting sports clubs, establishing parks in Al-Karameh and
the Ninth District, as well as paving several roads and commencing construction
of student housing construction the University of Jordan.
