AMMAN — The Arab League
on Tuesday hosted a ceremony celebrating the World Population Day, which falls
on July 11, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

The event was titled “A World of 8 Billion: Toward a
Resilient Future for All - Harnessing Opportunities and Ensuring Rights and
Choices for All”.
Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League Haifa Abu
Ghazaleh said the Arab region has an effective asset that can effect positive
change, which is the high proportion of the young population. She noted that,
according to the State of the World Population 2020 report, youth make up 86
million of the region’s total 470 million population.
In order to channel youth energy toward sustainable
development that has a positive impact on the economy, she also urged
investment that supports youth development and ensures their right to health
care, quality education, and productive jobs.
