AMMAN —The total area of licensed buildings in the Kingdom increased by
6.3 percent in the January–October period of 2022, reaching 7.451 million
square meters (MSM) against 7.011MSM in the same period of 2021, according to
figures released on Monday by the
Department of Statistics (DoS), carried by
the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

The number of building licensed in the January–October
period of the current year dropped by 2 percent to a total of 21,473 licenses
compared with 21,916 licenses in the same period last year.
During the same time period, the area of
residential buildings rose to 6.173 MSM, marking a 0.3 percent rise from the 6.153 MSM
recorded in 2021, the DoS added.
Meanwhile, the area of buildings licensed for
non-residential purposes shot up by 49 percent in the first 10 months of 2022,
reaching 1.278 MSM against 858,000sq.m. in the same period of 2021, the data
revealed.
Buildings licensed for housing purposes accounted for 82.8
percent of the total area of licensed buildings, leaving 17.2 percent to
buildings used for non-housing purposes, according to the DoS.
In the geographic breakdown of the data, the department said
that the Kingdom's central region accounted for 65.8 percent of the total area
of licensed
buildings, followed by the northern and southern regions at 24.9
and 9.3 percent, respectively.
