Around 55% of new COVID infections caused by Omicron

AMMAN — On Thursday, the secretary general at the Ministry of Health, Adel Bilbeisi, said that the Omicron variant was responsible for around 55 percent of new COVID-19 infections. He added that by Friday, the Kingdom is expected to have recorded a weekly caseload of 26,000, the highest number in weeks, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.اضافة اعلان

He added that the fourth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic started two weeks ago and is expected to last 4 to 6 weeks.

Bilbeisi said he expects the infections to peak in mid-February before the caseload starts to decline. He also pointed out that current admitted hospital cases stand at low and convenient levels, indicating that only 597 cases are now receiving treatment at hospitals.

He also stressed the importance of receiving the COVID-19 booster shot, adding that it enhances immunity by up to 80 percent against the virus and the Omicron variant, calling for adherence to preventive measures.
