An official source from Jordan's Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources stated that the ruling is set to be issued after that date, likely around mid-2024.
Meanwhile, a source emphasized that the arbitration revolves around the Jordanian government's request to review the agreement, the Jordan News Agency, Petra reported. This request stems from the perceived grave injustice caused by the increase in electricity prices, as outlined in the 2013 pact.
The source further explained that the agreement was signed with a consortium consisting of Chinese, Malaysian, and Estonian companies.
The Jordanian government has specifically requested a reduction in the prices of electricity generated from the Attarat oil shale project. Importantly, the government has not sought contract termination.
In late 2020, both the government and the National Electric Power Company (NEPCO) submitted an arbitration request to the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in Paris.
