AMMAN — The
Bangladesh Embassy in Jordan
recently organized a
seminar and a virtual cultural event at the Fair Mont Hotel in Amman to
celebrate the country’s golden jubilee.

At the beginning of the event, Bangladesh’s Ambassador to Jordan Nahida
Sobhan welcomed the guests and gave a short speech, before going over the
country’s various achievements since its independence some 50 years ago.

The ambassador said that Bangabandhu Sheikh
Mujibur Rahman, the father
of Bangladesh, “dreamed
of a ‘Golden Bengal.’
The golden Bengal he dreamed of was a country free from
hunger,
poverty, illiteracy, and communalism.”
The ambassador went on to highlight the
country’s development in different fields
including education, health, agriculture, information,
technology, women's empowerment, and more, under the leadership of
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the daughter of Bangabandhu.

Rahman highlighted Bangladesh's garment
sector, which when it comes to exports, rankssecond in the world. She added that Bangladesh is also now self-sufficient in
food and fish production, and achieved its UN Millennium Goals signed in 2000.
The ambassador highlighted
how the country managed to achieve positive growth in its GDP during the pandemic, and is now seeking to strengthen economic ties. At the same
time, Bangladesh is also considering to invest in other countries, Rahman
said.
Various Bangladeshi products were exhibited
at the venue, where guests were allowed to try them out. At the end of the seminar, a colorful virtual cultural program and videos on Bangladesh were shown, according to the statement.
