At the beginning of the event, Bangladesh’s
Ambassador to Jordan Nahida Sobhan welcomed the guests and gave a short speech,
before going over the country’s various achievements since its independence
some 50 years ago.
The ambassador said that Bangabandhu Sheikh
Mujibur Rahman, the father of Bangladesh, “dreamed of a ‘Golden Bengal.’ The
golden Bengal he dreamed of was a country free from hunger, poverty,
illiteracy, and communalism.”
The ambassador went on to highlight the
country’s development in different fields including education, health,
agriculture, information, technology, women's empowerment, and more, under the
leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the daughter of Bangabandhu.
Rahman highlighted Bangladesh's garment sector,
which when it comes to exports, rankssecond in the world. She added that
Bangladesh is also now self-sufficient in food and fish production, and
achieved its UN Millennium Goals signed in 2000.
The ambassador highlighted how the country
managed to achieve positive growth in its GDP during the pandemic, and is now
seeking to strengthen economic ties. At the same time, Bangladesh is also
considering to invest in other countries, Rahman said.
Various
Bangladeshi products were exhibited at the venue, where guests were allowed to
try them out. At the end of the seminar, a colorful virtual cultural program
and videos on Bangladesh were shown, according to the statement.
