AMMAN — Bangladeshi Foreign Minister Abul Kalam Abdul Momen affirmed his country’s “deep-rooted, strong” relations with Jordan and the continuous coordination and contact between the two countries on various issues, foremost is the Palestinian cause, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

In a recorded speech at a reception organized by Bangladesh Embassy here on Friday evening for Bengali university alumni in Jordan and Palestine in medicine and higher education fields, Momen referred to their role in strengthening relations between the two countries peoples.
Momen also called on these alumni to be goodwill ambassadors for Bangladesh in Jordan and Palestine and assume a role in strengthening bilateral ties and the existing cooperation between the two countries.
On the Palestinian cause, the minister said: “Bangladesh’s support for the Palestinian issue stems from the very specific policy guidelines set by its founder Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in his address to the United Nations General Assembly in 1974, in which he called on restoring the legitimate national rights of the Palestinian people.”
For her part, the Bangladeshi Ambassador to Amman, Nahida Subhan, expressed the embassy’s keenness to contact Bangladeshi graduates to continue organizing meetings and programs with them and support cultural and scientific cooperation with Jordan and Palestine.
The envoy also noted the possibility of establishing a club for Bangladeshi university alumni due to its importance in building cooperation bridges, adding that Bangladesh today is a “model for development” in various fields, including education, health, agriculture, information technology, and women’s empowerment.
She added that the garment export sector in Bangladesh ranks second in the global economy, indicating that her country is “now self-sufficient in food and fish production.”
A number of Bangladeshi university alumni delivered speeches during the ceremony, expressing their thanks and appreciation to their country for providing all facilitations to them.
