He added that the highest number of visitors was from the US, constituting 15 percent of visitors, followed by Italy with 12.5 percent, then France with 12 percent, and other European countries with 9.7 percent, with a decrease in the number of visitors from some African countries and Russia. As for Arab countries, Lebanon ranked first with 3 percent, while Jordanians made up 6 percent of visitors.

Mekjian confirmed that the increase in visitors was clear from the beginning of 2023 until mid-October of last year, then the numbers began to gradually decrease to modest levels due to the decline in foreign tourism with the events in Gaza.

He pointed out that the management of the site is continuing to develop the site and provide the best services to visitors, and is preparing to receive pilgrims to participate in the site of the baptism. This coincides with this year’s silver jubilee of the commemoration of the Epiphany and the Great Pilgrimage at the site of the baptism, which began in 2000.
