AMMAN — Director of the Anti-Cyber Crimes Unit at the
Public Security Directorate (PSD) Mahmoud Al-Maghayrah said that the most
crimes received by the unit are online blackmailing, defamation, libel, and
slander, according to Khaberni.

He said that
blackmail comes in different forms, adding that it usually starts with a
friendship request and later develops into video chats and eventually leads to
immoral acts, ending up in extortion and threatens.
Cybercrimes vary from
one country to another, Maghayrah said. Offences of defamation, libel, and
slander are punishable by up to three years imprisonment, and constitute a
misdemeanor, calling for a move away from cyber bullying and hate speech.
The presence of an
e-complaints receiver has led to a rise in complaints, as well as a rise in the
use of social media sites, according to Maghayrah.
