Jordan's Border Guard forces clashed early this Thursday with armed groups of smugglers attempting to cross the northern borders of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan within the area of responsibility of the Eastern Military Zone.

The clashes resulted in the death of four smugglers, and the remaining members of the group retreated into Syrian territory. The incident occurred when the groups attempted to cross the Kingdom's international borders, exploiting the unstable weather conditions and fog along the border in the Eastern Military Zone. The rules of engagement were applied, and the groups were repelled. A large quantity of narcotics was seized, along with an automatic weapon (Kalashnikov). The seized materials were transferred to the relevant authorities.
The Jordanian Armed Forces reaffirm that they will continue to use all available resources and capabilities to prevent infiltration and smuggling, employing force as necessary to maintain the security and stability of the Kingdom of Jordan.
