The embassy
usually donates these bottles to the Ministry of Education, which in turn
distributes them to students, according to the activists.
Secretary-General
of the Ministry of Education Nawaf Al-Ajarmeh said that the ministry had not
received such bottles in five years, whether for distribution to the ministry's
schools or for Zaatari camp for Syrian refugees.
The US
Embassy in Jordan issued a statement on Saturday, about the claim that “water bottles”
holding its logo are being sold at the Friday market in Mafraq. It said they
were produced a few years ago, but with a slight defect and thus were disposed
of, according to Al-Ghad News.
The embassy
said: “Thanks to everyone who sent photos and information showing us the bottles
bearing the US Embassy logo and sold in places around Jordan.”
“After
looking into the matter it turned out that the bottles were produced a few
years ago but with a slight defect, they were not purchased due to that defect
and we understand that they have been disposed of,” the statement added.
The embassy
pointed out that the bottles were not gifted to any of its partners, and that
the US government does
not sell any promotional products.
