AMMAN — The
Jordan Payments and Clearing Company (JoPACC) has
reported that the number of checks circulating in Jordan from the beginning of
the current year until the end of August has reached 4.4 million, with a total
value of JD26.4 billion.

According to statistics compiled by
JoPACC,
the number of bounced checks in Jordan decreased by 26.4 percent in August
compared to the previous month. In August, there were around 17,000 bounced
checks, compared to 24,000 in July.
The total value of bounced checks in August of
the current year was JD100 million, down from JD135 million in July of the same
year, representing a decrease of 25.7 percent.
The statistics also revealed that in August,
11,034 bounced checks, totaling JD56.83 million were due to financial reasons,
while more than 6,6000 checks, valued at JD34.4 million were due to technical
reasons.
During August, the number of
checks in circulation in Jordan was 603,000, compared to 654,000 checks in the preceding
July, indicating a 7.7 percent decrease.
The total value of checks in circulation
during August amounted to JD3.68 billion, compared to JD3.75 billion in July of
the same year, marking a decrease of 1.9 percent.
