A truck slammed
into the collapsed bridge, clogging the road to the airport and chocking
traffic, the ministry said in a statement on Monday. A handful of other
vehicles, including an ambulance, later slammed into the collapsed bridge.
Initially, one lane
was reopened for traffic to facilitate travel to southern governorates, while
the remaining traffic was temporarily diverted to the service road.
Later, the main
road was “reopened in both directions, in cooperation with the Public Security
Directorate, (PSD) after removing the obstruction resulting from a truck colliding
with the bridge,” the statement said.
The ministry said
it used the “necessary equipment and cranes to remove the bridge” under the
supervision of Minister of Public Works and Housing Yahya Al-Kasbi.
The ministry
pointed out that, “as soon as it was notified, it began to work in coordination
with partners to remove the bridge and all other obstruction, and to ensure
traffic safety on the diversions.”
The (PSD) said in a
statement that the accident resulted in the injury of four people, whose
condition is moderate. They were treated by civil defense cadres.
Several vehicles,
including an ambulance which belongs to an Amman hospital, were damaged.
