AMMAN – British Ambassador Bridget
Brind on Thursday visited Madaba, where she met Governor Ali Al-Madi and saw
first-hand a UK-funded project supporting young people in the governorate, 30km
southwest Amman.

The ambassador and Madi discussed
the governorate’s challenges and opportunities including economy, investment
and tourism, as well as the impact of COVID-19, an embassy statement said.
Ambassador Brind also visited the
Madaba Visitors’ Center and St George’s Church, where she met representatives
from the Christian community in Madaba.
She later met with Minister of
Youth Mohammad Al-Nabulsi to open formally the Mlaih Youth Center, which was
renovated with British government funding in partnership the ministry. The
center is now providing opportunities for local young people to participate in
social communication, debate training and involvement in local decision-making.
Commenting on the visit, the
minister said: "Today we visited the Mlaih Youth Centre, one of the three centers
that Mercy Corps has developed with the support of the United Kingdom. On this
occasion we thank the UK government and Mercy Corps for their support in
developing these centers and we hope to build direct partnerships to develop
other centers in the Kingdom.”
The Ambassador concluded the visit
by Meeting Middle East University students from the University of Strathclyde
and University of Bedfordshire programs.
Following the meetings, Ambassador
Brind said: “It was a great pleasure to visit the Governorate of Madaba today,
one of Jordan’s most diverse and beautiful. I enjoyed meeting both official
representatives and young people in Madaba, and visiting some of its landmarks,
including St George’s Church with its wonderful mosaic map. The British
Government is committed to working in partnership with Jordan at all levels,
with both the government and with local civil society organizations. I was
delighted to open officially, with HE Minister Mohammad Al-Nabulsi the vibrant
youth center in Mlaih, which we have supported in partnership with the Ministry
of Youth. Thank you Madaba for the warm welcome!”
