Hashemite custodianship
This decision comes in line with the historical
Hashemite custodianship over the
Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, Hala News reported.
This custodianship dates back to 1924, and was first granted to Hussein Bin Ali, when the Hashemites were still the Sharifs of Mecca. Despite Jordan having lost these territories, it has agreements with both Israeli and Palestinian authorities providing certain measures of responsibility over Jerusalem holy sites, and to Jerusalem’s people.
