The more than $6 million venture will see the
construction of two buildings specifically designed for women soldiers serving
in northern and central regions of Jordan. The structures respond to a priority
request from JAF senior leadership, who view infrastructure as the largest
obstacle for gender integration in operations, the statement said.
“We recognize that gender integration is not a
one-size-fits all approach. We may all have different starting points, but what
is most important is that we are moving forward towards this common goal,”
Ambassador Pottie said.
Brig. Gen. Huneity said: “As the JAF has launched it
military gender streaming strategy recently, this event, today, is a part of
the material solutions needed to implement it.”
“This initiative is to address the key obstacle of
gender integration in the JAF and the project will play a very important role
in increasing female officers’ participation in JAF’s operation,” said Tajma
Kurt, chief of mission of the International Organization for Migration Jordan,
the agency implementing the project on behalf of Canada.
“We are glad
that this project has launched successfully and grateful for the continued
extraordinary cooperation and partnership with JAF and Embassy of Canada in
Jordan,” Kurt said.
