AMMAN — The president of the
Association of the Owners ofCargo Shipment and Clearance Companies, Deif Allah Hussein Abu Aqoula, urged
the Jordanian government to facilitate bilateral trade between Jordan and Syria
and remove obstacles preventing the increase of
Jordanian exports to Syria and
imports from it. He noted that trade is at its lowest levels since the reopening
of the Jaber border crossing.

Abu Aqoula stated that the movement of trucks between the
two sides has decreased to 100 trucks per day, compared to the previous 1000
trucks, significantly affecting transportation and trade. He emphasized that
Syria used to be Jordan's gateway to export to Europe, with 2500 trucks loaded
with vegetables and fruits entering per day from Jordan, Jo23 News reported.
He also urged the Jordanian government to establish a joint
Jordanian-Syrian free market due to the proximity between the two countries.
This move could contribute to increasing import and export activities and
reducing
transportation costs.
