AMMAN – The budget proposal for the
Ministry of Justice for the upcoming year reveals that the number of cases
brought to Jordanian courts this year has reached 347,300, while it is expected
to increase to 472,600 next year, representing a 36 percent increase.

According to Khaberni, the current year saw
315,000 cases resolved, with 118,800 pending cases and 86,500 carried over from
previous years, according to the budget proposal. The
Ministry's budget is
allocated at JD71.869 million, with JD59.6 million for current expenses and
JD12.2 million for capital expenses.
Regarding alternative sanctions, the
proposal indicates that 1,992 cases were executed this year, with a target of
2,100 cases for the next year. The number of executed alternative sanctions
increased by 247 percent compared to the previous year, with 574 cases, and the
government allocated JD35,000 for this item in both the current and next year,
compared to JD6,400 in the previous year.
The budget proposal
highlights challenges facing the Ministry, including obstacles to effective justice due to
legislative developments and technological limitations. Challenges also include
the limited budget for legal aid, the need for continuous training and
development, and the implementation of support programs for management and
auxiliary services.
The Ministry is working on programs for
improving the efficiency of judges through training and capacity-building
initiatives. The proposal emphasizes the need for strategic planning and
investment in technology and infrastructure to address current challenges in
the justice system.
