AMMAN — Member of the Board of Directors
of the Poultry Breeders Union Ghassan Abu Daqer said on Saturday that chicken
prices in Jordan are still within the range set by the Ministry of Industry and
Trade, adding that the ministry did not consult the union before setting them,
according to Ammannet.

Abu Daqer said that there is a significant increase in
production costs, especially in feed prices, which increased by 40 percent over
2021.
“We are self-sufficient in the poultry sector, as we
produce from 700,000 to 800,000 birds a day,” Abu Daqer said, stressing that
“Jordan has a strategic stockpile of frozen meat and poultry.”
Minister of Industry, Trade, and Supply Yousef Alshamali
set price ceilings for fresh chicken meat on March 17, due to the unjustified
rise in the prices of fresh chicken meat. Under the decision, it is not allowed
to exceed the specified price ceilings nor sell for a lower price, in order to
maintain competition in the market.
