AMMAN — This year, the
Labor Directorate of Mafraq Governorate arrested 30 children working in the agricultural sector,
in violation of the provisions of the law, confirming that the rate of child
labor in the agricultural sector has increased by 50 percent in 2022, according
to a local news outlet.

These children are
striving to overcome the life difficulties, and the economic and social reality
forces them to work, giving up on their childhood dreams and their right to
learn and play, the outlet said.
Under the weight of
Syrian refugees and the
expansion of pockets of poverty in the northern Badia, child labor has grown by
50 percent over last year, associations and organizations that combat child
labor are reporting.
Despite the efforts of non-governmental
organizations and the Directorate of Labor, parents often push their children
to work and contribute to supporting the family. There is need to find a
radical treatment to this complex problem in which poverty and unemployment,
overlap the organization of the labor market and the societal culture.
