Daifallah Abu Aqoula, head of the Association of
Owners of Clearance and Transport Companies, said Sunday that the sector is
also facing problems with shipping lines in terms of speed and cost of
shipping, lack of familiarity with the laws of the exporting countries, or how
to extract documents that facilitate the importer’s customs clearance.
The vision of economic modernization included the
transport and logistics sector, which is a key point that would revive various
productive sectors, as it secures the flow of the country’s imports and exports
from production inputs to the transportation of goods within and outside
Jordan, he said.
Abu Aqoula said that the transport sector should
oversee the implementation and periodic evaluation of action plans and access
feedback-supporting information, with a long, short and medium-term sector
development framework, and budget allocation.
He also called for efficient allocation of investments
to prioritize projects according to economic return, as well as eliminating
low-economic-return projects through participatory public-private approaches.
He urged the outsourcing of design, construction and
supervision, including the development of the road, sea, air and rail transport
system, linking the
Aqaba seaports to the far north of the Kingdom, and the
strategy’s focus on infrastructure development.
He demanded more efficient services, adopting a
transportation system that achieves easy movement of goods and consolidating
the Kingdom’s position as a global logistics center, by promoting integration
in the transport system, services and modern transport patterns that contribute
to enhancing human and technical capabilities in the sector, linking to the
global economy and encouraging investment.
