AMMAN — The Ministerial Steering Committee of the King
Hussein Bridge project inspected on Monday the bridge facilities, which include
the “city of pilgrims”, inside the main building, the departure halls and the
freight yards, Al-Mamlaka TV reported.

The committee,
headed by
Minister of Public Works and Housing Yahya Kisbi, was briefed about
services provided and about the procedures at the bridge, and talked to a
number of travelers about the services provided.
According to a
ministry statement, the travelers expressed appreciation for measures taken
recently by the government to facilitate the crossing of Palestinians by
extending working hours and providing convenient modes of transportation.
The committee includes Minister of Transport Wajih Azaiza, Minister of
Awqaf, Islamic Affairs and Holy Places Mohammad Al-Khalayleh, Minister of
Interior Mazen Al-Faraya, in addition to Director General of Customs Jalal
Al-Qudah, and the general secretaries of a number of other concerned
ministries.
The meeting
discussed several technical and security issues, as well as logistics services
that will be studied in the coming period in preparation for implementation.
Several immediate measures were taken to provide the best services for
travelers while reducing costs and time.
At the
conclusion of the visit, Kisbi said that the purpose of the visit was to see
whether the measures taken were implemented by the concerned agencies to
facilitate the movement of travelers between the West Bank and Jordan.
The government
recently launched a JD150 million tender for the construction of buildings and
yards for passengers and freight for the new King Hussein Bridge.
The ministry
said that the bid will be carried out through a partnership between the public
and private sectors, adding that the companies that qualified will be announced
in the coming period.
