AMMAN —
Minister of Agriculture Khaled Al-Hneifat said that the committees formed to
determine the damages caused by the recent frost wave have nearly concluded the
task, and will submit their reports to the ministry by end of February, adding
that affected farmers will be compensated, according to Al-Rai News.

The frost wave that
hit several areas of the Jordan Valley last month caused significant damage to
several crops including potato, zucchini, tomato, and eggplant crops.
The low
temperatures also contributed to the deceleration of agricultural crop growth.
The agriculture
ministry formed committees to assess damages incurred by the farmers through
surveying damaged crops and affected agricultural areas. Compensation would be
determined according to specific criteria, including types of crops and the
size of affected areas.
The ministry did
not stipulate compensation eligibility based on the premise that the committees
were to survey all affected agricultural areas, giving the farmers the option
to apply for compensation in cooperation with the relevant agriculture
directorate.
