Conference on AI’s Role in Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystem Nexus Concludes
Amman - His Royal Highness Prince El Hassan bin Talal, Chairman of the Higher Council for Science and Technology (HCST), sponsored the closing ceremony of the "Artificial Intelligence: The Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystem Nexus" conference in Amman on Tuesday.اضافة اعلان

The event, attended by Princess Sumaya bint Hassan, Prime Minister Jafar Hassan, and a host of officials, experts, and academics, was organized by the HCST with support from the German International Development Agency (GIZ) and funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

During the ceremony, Prince El Hassan emphasized the need for a national roadmap that integrates water, energy, food, and the ecosystem, all linked within a single framework. He stressed the importance of focusing on population needs through the multiple deprivation index and utilizing modern governance systems that prioritize partnership and cultural adaptability.

Highlighting the role of artificial intelligence, Prince Hassan underscored the creation of a multidisciplinary database rooted in accurate information, promoting cooperation, integration, and stability. He noted that AI should serve as a tool to enhance human dignity.

Secretary-General of the HCST, Mashhour Rifai, pointed out that this conference was the first of its kind to focus on the intersection of artificial intelligence and modern technology with the sectors of water, energy, food, and the environment.

He further explained that the Scientific Research and Innovation Support Fund would back projects in these areas, with ongoing coordination between the HCST and relevant ministries.

Khaled Touqan, head of the advisory fellowship team at HCST, described the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystem Nexus (WEFE Nexus) as a strategic pillar amidst the political, economic, and environmental challenges faced by the region.

He stressed that this nexus represents an integrated approach to flexibility and sustainability, spanning multiple disciplines and crossing borders to address shared vulnerabilities.

The conference concluded with recommendations on using artificial intelligence and digital data to enhance water governance, improve energy efficiency, and promote precision agriculture.

Proposals included developing storage systems, modernizing infrastructure, and establishing a national food security authority to guide policies and manage resources.
