AMMAN — In a recent ruling, an Amman court convicted a
Palestinian national of attempting suicide, resulting in a one-month imprisonment
along with a JD50 fine and related charges. Taking into account his admission
of guilt and plea for clemency, the court chose to lessen his sentence to just
a single week of confinement and applicable fines.اضافة اعلان
This decision, subject to
round-the-clock scrutiny, comes in response to a proven suicide endeavor by the
Palestinian citizen. He had sought to end his life from atop an electricity pole in the Jordanian capital, Amman. Swift police intervention effectively
dissuaded him, ultimately regaining control over the situation, as reported by
Hala News.
As per Article (339) of the
Jordanian Penal Code:
- Those publicly
attempting suicide through acts likely to cause death can be imprisoned
for up to six months, fined up to one hundred dinars, or both. This
penalty doubles if done collectively.
- Those instigating or
aiding suicide using methods described in Article (80) may face temporary
detention.
- A failed suicide
attempt leads to imprisonment for three months to two years, extendable to
three years if resulting in permanent harm or disability
