Following renewed investigations and the gathering of new evidence, the team concluded that the disappearance may have been linked to a homicide. A close friend of the missing individual was identified as a suspect and subsequently apprehended.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed to fatally striking the victim with a blunt object (a stick) over a sudden dispute more than 20 years ago. He admitted to relocating and burying the body in an uninhabited area.
With the public prosecutor’s authorization, authorities were led by the suspect to the burial site, where human remains were discovered during excavation. The remains have been sent to the forensic lab for DNA analysis to confirm the identity.
The case has now been referred to the Public Prosecutor of the Grand Criminal Court.
