To ensure smooth traffic, Qudah said the department has increased its teams working at the border crossing in order to facilitate freight and passenger procedures, following the government’s decision to resume full operations at the crossing, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
The customs procedures implemented at Jaber, which is now working at “full” capacity, will remain “unchanged,” he said, pointing to a “high” level of coordination with Jordan’s security departments to facilitate and complete travelers’ transactions “as quickly and easily as possible.”
Director of the crossing’s customs, Ahmed Quraan, said a number of new measures will be implemented as of Wednesday, foremost is scrapping a back-to-back delivery system, and allowing an unlimited number of buses to leave from Jordan to Syria.
Quraan added that the procedures in force also allow 100 public vehicles to leave for Syrian territory, while emphasizing the need for travelers to register on the Ministry of Health’s platform.
The opening of the border followed ministerial level meetings between Jordan and Syria in Amman earlier this week Jordan News previously reported.
The two sides also reached a number of other agreements during the visit, including an eventual resumption of flights between Amman and Damascus.
