According to the SCN's statement issued on Wednesday, the
program aims to enhance the role of sic Community Prevention Networks in Jordan
and Lebanon and build their capacities to support national strategies and
action plans to prevent and counter violent extremism.
The delegation's visit included a number of Dutch
institutions concerned with combating and preventing extremism, who are also
scheduled to participate in workshops, and review experiences of the Netherlands'
"safety houses," the statement noted.
The visit also aims to strengthen Dutch cities' ties with
Jordanian and Lebanese counterparts, in line with the SCN's goals, by
coordinating among various municipalities and community committees, the
statement added.
Strong Cities Network, led by the Institute of Strategic
Dialogue, was launched at the UN in September 2015. It is the first-ever global
network of mayors, municipal-level policy makers, and practitioners united in
building social cohesion and community resilience to counter violent extremism
in all its forms.
