AMMAN — More than 100,000 Jordanians received the third dose of
coronavirus vaccine since the beginning of the week, said Bassam Hijjawi, member of the
National Epidemiological Committee, according to Ad Dustour newspaper.

There
have been no complaints about side effects on the part of recipients, said
Hijjawi, urging citizens, particularly the elderly, health personnel, and
individuals with compromised immunity, to get the booster vaccine.
Jordan
is approaching the peak of the new wave, said Hijjawi, adding that there is
great demand for
PCR tests and for getting vaccinated.
"Getting
vaccinated would strengthen people's immunity and protect them if the Omicron
variant spreads, but the country must be prepared to secure institutional
quarantine and increase efforts to vaccinate citizens,” he said.
While
the effectiveness of the vaccine against the mutant variant Omicron is unknown,
it still protects against the Delta variant, which is still spreading, stressed
Hijjawi.
No
cases of people infected with the Omicron variant have been detected; all
infections recorded in Jordan are from the mutated Delta, he said.
