AMMAN — Deputizing for
HRH Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah, Senate President Faisal Al-Fayez patronized the launch of the Arab
Network for Youth in Elections, organized by the Independent Election
Commission (IEC) in cooperation with the Organization of Arab Electoral
Management Bodies (ArabEMBs).
In remarks at the
opening ceremony on Tuesday, Fayez conveyed the Crown Prince’s blessing of the
launch of the Arab Network for Youth in Elections, the first of its kind in the
Arab region.
He said that His
Majesty King Abdullah has upheld reform in all fields with a solid political
will, vision to the reform process, and future democracy in Jordan.
He cited reform
milestones, including the first constitutional amendment in 2011, which
resulted in the Constitutional Court, the Judicial Council, and an enhanced
Parliament and judiciary, as well as setting up the electoral commission, and
passing legislation to promote integrity, transparency, and public freedoms.
Fayez noted that
His Majesty attaches great importance to the country’s young men and women, and
has faith in their ability to bring about positive change to build a Jordan
capable of facing challenges.
IEC board of
commissioners Chairman Moussa Al-Maytah called for unlocking the energies of
youth to fulfill their future aspirations, and support them to reach
decision-making positions.
ArabEMBs President,
chairperson of Somalia’s National Independent Electoral Commission, Halima
Ismail, said the launch of the network will help develop the political
capabilities of Arab youth and their involvement in political and electoral
work. She emphasized the pivotal role of youth in the development and
prosperity of nations.
