AMMAN — A survey conducted by the
Department of Statistics showed a clear gender disparity in labor force
participation in the third quarter of 2022, with only 13.7 percent of women in
the Kingdom employed, compared to 52.5 percent of men.

The data also revealed a decrease in
women’s
labor force participation, which dropped by 0.8 percent from 14.5
percent in the third quarter of 2021, Al-Mamlaka TV reported.
For both genders combined, Jordan’s labor
force participation rate stood at 33 percent in the third quarter of 2022, down
from 34.4 percent in the third quarter of the previous year.
Employment figures also varied based on
education level. An estimated29.5 percentof unemployed menhad completed a
bachelor's degree or higher in the third quarter of last year, whereas 81.8
percent of unemployedwomen held
higher education certificates.
Furthermore, the survey showed that 56.2
percent of employed men in the third quarter of 2022 had below-secondary education
levels, compared to only 10.4 percentof employed women, who tended to hold
higher education certificates at71.9 percent. Meanwhile, only 25.9 percentof employed
menhad completed a bachelor’s degree or higher.
The labor force survey included a sample of
16,560 households distributed among all
Jordanian governorates and representing
both urban and rural populations.
