Domestic violence on the rise in recent years, several factors named

AMMAN — Head of the National Council for Family Affairs Mohammad Miqdadi said that there has been an increase in domestic violence in recent years, Khaberni News reported. Family Protection Department of the Directorate of Public Security figures and reports show an increase in the number of incidents of violence, which at times turns into homicide. While in the 2019 there were some 10,000 cases of abused children and women, currently the number stands at 14,000, Miqdadi said, attributing the increase to psychological conditions, substance abuse, poverty, and unemployment.
