AMMAN — The
Public Security Directorate (PSD) said that drug trafficking in Jordan increased by 23.3 percent in 2021,
compared to 2020, Khaberni reported.

According to official data issued by PSD, 4,858 drug
trafficking cases were recorded in 2021, compared with 3,937 in the preceding
year.
Last year, 135 drug offenses were recorded in
Jordan, nearly three times the 49 offenses registered in 2020.
But cases of possession decreased in 2021, with
14,129 cases recorded, compared to the 16,069 cases in 2020.
In a related development, Al-Ghad News quoted a
trusted source form PSD’s Anti-Narcotics Department as saying that the
authorities destroyed a “huge” amount of drugs worth JD43 million.
The source, who preferred to remain anonymous, said
that 24 million captagon pills, 120kg of heroin, and 1,300kg of cannabis were
destroyed under the supervision of State Security Court’s prosecutor and a
number of PSD officials.
Sources from the State Security Court said that destroying
the drugs several days ago was in line with peremptory provisions issued to by
the Court of Cassation, Jordan’s highest tribunal.
