E-wallet payments down 8.7%, CliQ up 9.2%

AMMAN — The number of e-wallets in Jordan increased by 2.7 percent to 1.91 million last month, compared with 1.87 million a month earlier, according to a report by the Jordan Payments and Clearing Company (JoPACC), Al-Mamlaka TV reported.اضافة اعلان

In a separate report, JoPACC said the number of customers through the instant payment system CliQ increased to 449,000 customers last month, compared with 411,000 last August, a 9.2 percent increase.

On e-wallets, JoPACC said that 950,000 transactions were executed through the mobile payment system, compared to 1.04 million transactions in August, a decrease of 8.7 percent.

JoPACC said that the value of the transactions amounted to JD125 million last month, against JD141 million last August, an 11.3 percent decline. The report said that 92.5 percent of the funds were transfers, while 7.1 percent were withdrawals.

The report showed that 63.1 percent of e-wallet clients are men, while 36.9 percent are women.

The statistics showed that e-wallet users are of different age groups. About 5,000 users are under 18 years old, 694,000 are 18–30 years, 493,000 users are 31–40, and 366,000 are between 41 to 50 years old.

The Central Bank of Jordan and banks operating in Jordan agreed on January 16, 2017, to establish the (JoPACC), which is a private company limited by shares, headquartered in Amman, with an authorized capital of JD12 million.

On CliQ, JoPACC said 760,000 transactions were conducted through the app last month, compared with 695,000 transactions a month earlier.

Of the total, 92.2 percent, or 700,000 transactions, were wire transfers with a value of JD136.8 million. The average value of a transfer was JD199.

The remaining 59,100 transactions were purchases, at a rate of 7.8 percent with a value of JD14.1 million.

The report showed that 97.4 percent of its clientele, or 433,500 people, are Jordanians, while 2.6 percent, or 11,700 people, are non-Jordanians.

As for the gender of users, the report showed that 67.5 percent of the total are men, while 32 percent are women.

The statistics were divided in to age groups. Some 1,000 users are under 18 years old, 188,000 are 18–30 year, 129,000 are 31–40, and 67,000 are 41–50.
