AMMAN — The
Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC) held a workshop Saturday
to familiarize the media with measures regulating and monitoring the work of the
energy sector and radiation protection, according to the Jordan News Agency,
Petra.

The workshop
also tackled the latest news and outcome of the new electricity tariff and its
impact on individual subscribers and the production sectors, and answered
attendee inquiries.
EMRC also
briefed the participants on the mobile vehicles that are used for the early
detection of radiation and nuclear resources and their work mechanism. It
explained how to install fixed and portable radiation and nuclear detection
devices in the joint
Jordanian-Syrian border area.
The workshop
included a visit to Al-Hussein Wind Project in Ma’an, which is supervised by
the Samra Electric Power Company.
It resumed on Saturday in
Aqaba, and will include a seminar about the outcome and statistics related
to the implementation of the new electricity tariff on subscribers, and how the
tariff is applied.
It will also
include a field visit to one of the hospitals in Aqaba to present EMRC’s
surveillance in the effort to protect patients, workers, and customers from
radiation.
Another tour of some
production sectors is also planned to inspect the impact the new electricity
tariff on the electricity bill.
