Present at the discussion were Minister of Political and Parliamentary Affairs Musa Maaytah, the ministry’s Secretary-General Ali Khawaldeh, several other general secretaries, syndicates and parties representatives, as well as a number of specialists and experts.

ESC President Musa Shteiwi said in a press release issued by the council on Sunday that the Royal Discussion Papers and the outcomes of the Royal Committee to Modernize the Political System are some of the most important milestones of political development in decades, and that political action had become collective and organized through political parties, which had become an integral part of the political system.

Shteiwi said that political work has become more collaborative and organized due to political parties, which have become an integral part of the political system, adding, however, that political development in Jordan continues to face some challenges, such as, the huge trust gap between government institutions and citizens, the absence of a national political development strategy in the programs of consecutive governments, the decline in women’s political representation, and the absence of follow-up, evaluation and development programs for civil society organizations.

Maaytah stressed the importance of dialogue with political bodies, and of listening to different points of view in order to arrive at recommendations that will contribute to enriching and improving the work of decision makers.

Khawaldeh, said that it is difficult to monitor government plans when many partners are responsible for implementing them, including the media and civil society institutions.
