AMMAN — The spokesperson for the
European Union, Luis Miguel Bueno, has announced that the Brussels VIII Conference on
the future of Syria and the region will convene in May, aiming to garner
support for Syrians within their homeland and in the countries affected by the
Syrian crisis.

In a press interview, Bueno emphasized
the EU's ongoing support for the Syrian crisis, highlighting that the EU has
mobilized over 26 billion euros in aid in recent years. He clarified that the
previous Brussels conference resulted in commitments totaling 5.6 billion euros
for humanitarian and developmental assistance, Al-Mamlaka TV reported.
Bueno stressed the conference's focus on
finding a sustainable solution to the ongoing Syrian crisis since 2011, through
diplomatic efforts of the European Union in partnership with Jordan, aimed at
achieving a lasting resolution.
"We cannot speak of resolving the
issue of
Syrian refugees and displaced persons in the region until we reach a
sustainable solution agreed upon by the Syrian government and opposition under
UN auspices. These are the continuous efforts of the European Union,"
Bueno stated.
Regarding
annual commitments to support Syrians:
Since the onset of the
Syrian war crisis
in 2011, the European Union and its member states have mobilized over 30
billion euros in humanitarian aid and stability assistance. In Brussels
Conference 1, held on April 4-5, 2017, donors pledged 5.6 billion euros for
2017 and 3.47 billion euros for 2018-2020.
During the Brussels II Conference, held
on April 24-25, 2018, donors pledged 3.5 billion euros for 2018 and 2.7 billion
euros for 2019-2020.
In Brussels III Conference. held from
March 12 to 14, 2019, donors pledged 6.2 billion euros for 2019 and 2.4 billion
euros for 2020 and beyond.
In the Brussels Conference, the
European Commission announced that participants pledged 6.9 billion euros (7.7 billion
dollars) to help Syrian refugees, including 4.9 billion euros for 2020.
In the Brussels V Conference, jointly
chaired by the EU and the UN, the international community pledged 5.3 billion
euros for 2021 and beyond for Syria and neighboring countries hosting the
largest number of Syrian refugees.
Of this amount, the EU provided 3.7
billion euros, including 1.12 billion euros from the European Commission and
2.6 billion euros from EU member states. The EU remains the largest donor,
contributing a total of 24.9 billion euros in humanitarian aid and assistance
for stability and resilience since the start of the crisis in 2011.
During the Brussels VI Conference, the
international community pledged to provide approximately 6.4 billion euros for
2022 and beyond. From this amount, the EU pledged over 4.8 billion euros, with
over 3.1 billion euros from the European Commission and 1.7 billion euros from
EU member states.
During the Brussels VII Conference, the
international community pledged 9.6 billion euros in grants and loans to
support the Syrian people and the countries hosting Syrian refugees, at the
conclusion of the seventh Brussels conference on the future of Syria and the
region.
During the Brussels VII Conference, the
international community pledged nearly 5.6 billion euros for 2023 and beyond,
with over 3.8 billion euros pledged by the European Union and its member
states.
The EU reaffirmed its commitment to
continue mobilizing all available tools to support the negotiated political
solution in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2254 and to help create
conditions for a better future for all Syrians.
