"Residential
buildings are monitored by the Jordan Engineers Association, and building plans
must be designed by engineering offices, in accordance with local engineering
codes," he stated
Jordan’s
building codes are specifically designed to make
buildings earthquake resistant,
Qutaishat said. Furthermore, concrete code for Arab countries includes
specifications to ensure the safety of buildings, taking into account the
number of floors.
Specialized
teams operate in all governorates of the Kingdom to follow up on the safety of
construction operations, he added.
The
Kingdom has also been divided into seismic zones based on
risk of earthquake impact, which is determined by their proximity to the Jordan Rift Valley, he
added.
