AMMAN — The Ministry of Education has “no intention” to nullify
the ongoing academic year and that it will “proceed as scheduled without change,”
the ministry’s spokesman, Abdul Ghafour Al-Qaraan, told Al-Ghad and
Jordan News.

Qaraan stated that the ministry will hold the Tawjihi (general
secondary education certificate examination) on June 24 in compliance with
health protocols and protective measures that would keep students safe and
facilitate the examination process.
Educational experts have said that calls to cancel the
academic year and have all students repeat it are neither a realistic nor
suitable solution, noting that it would be unfair to group students in such a
way and that several students have worked hard with support from their
families.
Experts told Al-Ghad and
Jordan News that such
proposals are based on the notion that over 100,000 out of two million students
have not been engaged in online learning while schools have been in lockdown,
adding that the Ministry of Education needs to find a solution through
compensation programs that would tackle the loss in educational value and cut
down on summer vacations in the years to come.
