AMMAN — The
minister of energy and mineral resources, Saleh
Al-Kharabsheh, stated on Monday, August 7, that efforts are underway to reduce
the cost of energy and address issues related to
petroleum products and natural gas.

He said that Jordan has a "distinct and promising"
opportunity in the renewable energy sector, given that the country has solar
radiation rates ranked among the top 3 in the world.
Pointing out that the challenges in the energy sector are
due to
heavy reliance on imports from abroad, as complaints about rising energy
costs are among the major challenges facing the sector.
Kharabsheh also mentioned that the
Ministry of Energy and
the Phosphate Mines Company will sign two new memoranda of understanding
regarding phosphate on Thursday, bringing the total number of memoranda the
ministry has signed since the beginning of 2022 to 13.
