Eid Al-Adha holiday announced on Sunday

AMMAN — In a televised statement, His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday announced that the Eid Al-Adha holiday will last from Monday, July 19 to Friday, July 23. Public offices will not work during this time. The celebration, whose name literally means “holiday of sacrifice”, is based on Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail at God’s command. Traditionally, Muslims around the world mark the holiday by sacrificing a goat or sheep, wearing new clothes, and baking customary sweets like mamoul.
