“Due to the growing demand for
electric vehicle (EVs) in Jordan, the
ministry has issued instructions for the management of consumed batteries and
their trading for 2023,” Radaideh explained during discussions of the
parliamentary finance committee for the 2024 budget law project.
Electric vehicles accounted for more than 50 percent of car
customs in the first ten months of 2023, according to the
Jordan Free Zones Investors Association.
Electric vehicles recorded a “significant leap” in the
number of vehicles cleared during the first ten months of 2023, with 30,912
vehicles cleared, an increase of 137.82 percent over 12,997 vehicles in 2022.
The minister spoke about the increase in the number of
hybrid vehicles to 13,876 vehicles during this period of 2023, with a growth
rate of 15.7 percent over 11,992 vehicles in 2022. The clearance of hybrid
vehicles during 2023 represented 22.56 percent of the total for the previous
year.
Radaideh confirmed that the ministry “is working to reduce
greenhouse gas emissions and take the necessary measures to adapt to
climate change,” as Jordan seeks to reduce emissions by 31 percent by 2030.
